The Children and Families Act 2014 (C&F Act) transforms the system for disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs (SEN). Part of the new legal framework will introduce new requirements for supporting children and young people with SEN when they are detained in youth custody.
This fact sheet explains the new legal duties and rights as set out in the C&F Act. For additional context, it also identifies some of the key facts about the SEND and youth justice systems and provides an explanation of how they currently operate. This factsheet will support local authorities, youth offending teams and custodial establishments in understanding and preparing
to implement this new framework from April 2015.
