Wow! What a fantastic day!
The Local Offer was invited to attend this year’s event which, at the young people’s request, focused on the really important subject of Mental Health. The Conference put together entirely by Wirral Youth Voice Group was held at Wallasey Town Hall and some 105 pupils from Secondary Mainstream, Special Schools and Colleges across Wirral
were treated to a day of :
Performances by Inclusion Dance
A series of 3 Workshops –
- COMPETITION – looking at the positive and negative impacts.
- ENVIRONMENT – creating the best learning environments for young people to flourish.
- SELF HELP – looking at practical tools & methods for positive mental well-being in school/education.
A feast of Domino pizzas for lunch.
The highlight of the day was the GREAT DEBATE in the Council Chamber. Here the pupils put forward 7 very inspiring motions which all related to young people’s mental health. Each suggestion was then debated by the pupils, Wirral Council Senior Officers, Councillors and Senior staff from partner organisations.
The pupils were given time to walk around the room looking at all the stalls and gathering lots of information about the services here on Wirral that can support young people and their families. It was lovely to have the opportunity to speak to so many of our young people and make them aware of what the Local Offer has to offer. Thank you for agreeing to go back to school and tell your friends and family about Wirral’s Local Offer and for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. Keep them coming kids!
