A key part of the Local Offer is to provide an means of our families letting us know their views/thoughts on the Local Offer and SEND provision here in Wirral. We welcome your feedback and will do our best to address any issues or answer questions that you raise.
Today we received feedback that says what so many of you are telling us.
I’m concerned for children’s mental health due to the ongoing lockdown and them not having a date to work towards meeting up with friends/ family.
Mental Health issues amongst our young people was a difficult issue before the pandemic came along. Lots of work is being done by Health and Education practioners to ensure Wirral responds with the support our young people will need.
Education is a big worry, although the teachers have been great during this period, it is no substitute for children being in a classroom and receiving the specialist support they need to complete their studies.
We work closely with the 120 Wirral SENCOs. They and their teacher colleagues are working very hard to provide the best they can during this protracted period of children/young people not attending school. The feedback you’ve sent us shows that schools are doing a great job to manage the balance between education and well-being. Calls home from Pastoral staff have been highlighted as a helpful support network. Clearly we are awaiting further advice from the Government as to the tentative plan to get children back into schools.
It was great to receive the SEND SNAPSHOT newsletter and see what is being done to engage young people remotely. Wirral does a lot of good things in this area and needs to promote its good work better. Thank you for all that you do.
We are so pleased that you find the SEND SNAPSHOT newsletter helpful. January’s edition was crammed full of information from our colleagues in Health, Education and Social Care. A large section of the content came from our fabulous third sector organisations whose ongoing support for Wirral families is fantastic. Edition 7 will be prepared soon and shared on the Local Offer website, Twitter & Facebook, as well as with our partners organisations. We’re so encouraged to hear that you feel Wirral is doing good work in this area and assure you we endeavour to promote it the best we’re able to. We are a team of two and would love to hear from you if you think you could help us share information to reach a wider audience. Together we can achieve more right!? We are passionate about the work that we do and will continue to support Wirral families to the best of our ability.
