On Friday the Local Offer hosted the 2nd SEND Youth Voice Conference at the Pilgrim Arts Centre in Birkenhead. The young people drew up a diverse invite list and were thrilled at the numbers who attended. It was a fantastic event with 60 representatives from Health, Education, Social Care and support services. The Local Offer works with the SEND Youth Voice Group and responding to the young people’s feedback, the 4 topics they feel most in need of support with, were chosen to progress at the Conference.
The SEND Youth group and pupils from Woodchurch High school raised 4 topics Independence, Safety, Relationships and Engagement. Each topic was introduced by a piece of dance or drama and one of their performances was filmed and will appear on the Local Offer website very soon. It’s called ‘Glass Ceilings’ and stresses the importance of not putting unnecessary barriers/restrictions in the way of our SEND youngsters going on to achieve their dreams and fulfill their potential.
The young people were so delighted to have their voice heard.
The audience listened, learned and have committed to leading the changes needed.
Offers of help have already come into the Local Offer and work has started on addressing these 4 areas affecting so many of our young SEND population.
Thanks to all who made this event such a success….Watch this space!
