Gateway Award from Wirral Mencap
People with a learning disability (18+)
The Gateway Award is a multi-activity awards programme for people with a learning disability. It is a bit like the Duke of Edinburgh Award with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
The Gateway Award empowers people to experience new things, gain confidence, increase independence, meet new people, have fun and get fit.
To name a few activities this year have included:
- Cooking
- Arts and Crafts such as sewing and batik
- Sports such as basketball, tennis, trampolining
- Money skills and lifestyle courses
- Dance
- DIY
- Volunteering at Birkenhead Park, Vale park and the Walled Gardens
There are places available for the new programme starting in September 2017. We run it one whole day a week and is a great alternative to a Day Centre place or having a PA. Please call Lizzie for more information.
Gateway Award at the Crossbow Club
Not everyone can afford the time or money to commit to a whole day a week of Gateway Award and would rather do it in their own time or the evening.
We are very fortunate to have some funding to enable us to run the Gateway Award from our weekly Wednesday evening social club, The Crossbow Club. You do not need to be a current attendee to sign up, just get in touch with Lizzie to find out more. The weekly session will include one activity with the participants needing to complete the rest of their activities in their own time.
To find out more about the Gateway Award please contact Lizzie Carline on 0151 666 1829.
