Children with Additional Needs or SEND – Portage
Portage is a home-visiting educational service for early years children NOT in a pre-school setting/with a childminder and their parents. To make a referral into the Portage service, contact the Early Years SEND team on [email protected] or 0151 666 3980 or complete the form below and submit to the email address on the form.
Portage is about the positive things your child can do and how we build on their current skills to help you to develop the skills to teach your child.
We accept children from 0 – 3 years who are at home with a parent/carer (not in a setting – but the setting can request support from the SEND Officers). We work with parents to break skills down into small achievable steps covering all areas of development. We help parents to understand their child’s communication at a pre-verbal level and then what the next steps are.
We listen pro-actively to parents and signpost them on to other agencies as required.
We support the parents with their child’s transition to a setting/school when we are still involved.
We are a time limited service.
