Part 3-
Common traits for girls that have Autism. A lot of them I find within myself, a lot if others I see I other Autistic people I know. This is definitely broad because we are all different, always remember that.
A lot of people when they think Autism, they think less social, not so good in social situations. And a lot of girls, which is so hard for us to get diagnosed, I feel it is the complete opposite. I am very social, I give way too much eye contact. I think now I am veery good in social situations.
It is also very common for girls who have Autism to also have other disabilities such as mental health. I have 5 more which are:
Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a neurological disorder that causes a range of behaviour problems such as difficulty attending to instruction, focusing on schoolwork, keeping up with assignments, following instructions, completing tasks and social interaction.
Social communication disorder is a brain-based condition that is, where the brain has not developed in a typical way. Children with social communication disorder have difficulties using verbal and non-verbal communication appropriately in social situations.
Developmental co-ordination disorder (DCD), also known as dyspraxia, is a condition affecting physical co-ordination. It causes a child to perform less well than expected in daily activities for their age, and appear to move clumsily.
Hypermobility is the term used to describe the ability to move joints beyond the normal range of movement. Joint hypermobility is common in the general population. It may be present in just a few joints or it may be widespread.
Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example, you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam or having a medical test or job interview.
OCD, Anxiety and depression are very common for girls with Autism. You just feel like the world needs a set of rules for you for you to understand it, that’s why a lot of Autistic people have interests/obsessions such as biology/ psychology, how the body works. Is our way on how to live in it and ‘fit in’.
